Earlier this month the UNC Institute for Healthcare Quality Improvement (IHQI) awarded one of their $50,000 seed grants to support a project entitled “Optimizing Tarheel Trauma Care: The Golden Hour and Beyond”. Dr. Daryhl Johnson, UNC Trauma Medical Director, is leading the interdisciplinary project team.
The aim of the project is to improve patient outcome, staff satisfaction and the patient experience by improving the efficiency, consistency and reliability of trauma resuscitations. We will achieve this through three key changes:
1) Standardize and sustain the trauma process
2) Strengthen the already existing Trauma Performance Improvement Process
3) Build programmatic capacity for continued quality improvement work.
Simulation techniques will be utilized at various stages throughout this project to achieve success.
