Faculty huddle prior to the first case

On February 17, the Department of Anesthesia hosted the Fourth Annual Pediatric Anesthesia Winter Bootcamp for fellowship trainees at NC Children’s Hospital. This event was created to facilitate the transition from trainee to faculty by providing the learners the opportunity to experience independent practice.

The cases simulated in this training reflect actual situations encountered by the faculty in the own first month of independent practice. The scenarios take place in various settings around UNC Children’s Hospital including the sedation suite. Learners are asked to interact with the team and simulation mannequins as if these cases were actual children. Following each case, learners participate in a debrief to discuss not only the medical management but also their own crisis resource management.

PedsAnesBootcamp_Feb2017_2Drs Sarah Hall, Seth Hanley, and Kevin Powell from the UNC fellowship program joined by Drs Rebecca School (Duke Fellow), Chelsea Willie (Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia Fellow), and Agathe Streiff (starting fellowship at Boston Children’s next year).
