9th Annual UNC-Duke-Wake Forest Pediatric Anesthesiology Conference
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the CME activity is to provide physicians, certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs), anesthesia assistants (AAs), registered nurses, fellows and residents an up-to-date refresher on information, techniques, and current research relevant to the practice of pediatric anesthesia. The goals of the CME activity will be accomplished with lectures, forums, and pro/con debates that will assess participant feedback in real time, using an audience participation system. The ultimate goal is to provide participants with tools and information that will improve the quality and safety of the care they provide to the pediatric patient in the perioperative setting.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Anesthesiologists, CRNAs, AAs, Pediatric Nurses, Residents and Fellows in Anesthesiology, Student Nurse Anesthetists, and other health care providers who care for the pediatric patient in the perioperative period.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this knowledge-based program, the learner should be able to:
• Describe the appropriate anesthetic management for pediatric patients with various challenging syndromes.
• Discuss the benefits of social media in healthcare and recognize the importance of establishing an online professional presence.
• Identify strategies to accomplish safe and effective care when working with cases involving pediatric anesthesia.
• Demonstrate the use of simulation-based teaching and its importance in performance based learning.
• Review the most current evidenced-based literature for “hot topics” in pediatric anesthesia including pharmacologic and technical advances, consensus statements and trends in an ever-changing milieu of care.
