The School of Medicine launched its new Translational Education at Carolina (TEC) curriculum in 2014. This week, first class of second year medical students (MS2) are experiencing the newly redesigned endocrinology block patient centered care (PCC) simulations.
The PPC course is designed to prepare learners for, and expose them to, real-world medical care. PCC utilizes small group sessions led by a faculty tutor to guide the learners through clinical applications in preparation for the application phase of the curriculum.
During the endocrinology block, students have performed assessments of standardized patients and treated their specific metabolic disorder. They have also learned how to perform diagnostic evaluations of the thyroid utilizing palpations and ultrasound. Students have also had the opportunity to perform blood glucose measurements on each other and learn the operation of the glucometers that will be at the bedside in the main campus UNC Hospitals.
The CSPSC simulation team would like to thank to Drs. Gilchrist and Koonce as well as all of the medical curriculum support team for putting together such and unique #UNCsim experience.
