The 47th annual Student Research Day was hosted by the UNC School of Medicine on November 30th. This day was created to recognize and promote the research efforts of the student body.
This year, one of the winning posters of the Harold Pillsbury Student Research Award was a UNCsim project by medical students Lourens du Pisanie and John Cooper. Their project is titled “Development of a novel task simulator for thyroid and neck physical exam teaching”. du Pisanie and Cooper designed and built this task trainer under the leadership of Dr Feins. Drs Gilchrist and Koonce opened up their Patient Centered Care (PCC) course to allow volunteers to participate in the evaluation of the trainer.
The team’s preliminary results showed that training on the simulator yielded comparable results to evaluations on humans.
Nice work team and congratulations!
