On December 10th, the Twitter #MedEd Chat discussion centered on the use of simulation in medical education. The chat was co-moderated Dr. Ryan Madanick, #MedEd Chat Founder, and UNCsim’s Gene Hobbs.
The chat this week asked participants how they use simulation clerkships, what their perceived benefits & drawbacks are, what sentiments are expressed from faculty and students about simulation as a learning style, and what the disruptive potential could be for changing the face of medical education.
Dr. Madanick, Gastroenterologist, UNC Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director, and Foundation Phase Co-Director for the School of Medicine, founded the #MedEd Chat in 2011. This weekly chat occurs on Thursday nights at 9PM Eastern. Conversations vary from week to week and center around “topics relating to issues in medical education, including its dissemination into social media”. A full description of the chat can be found here.
Mr. Hobbs is a Clinical Instructor in Pediatrics and Associate Director of Simulation for the School of Medicine.
Other members of the UNCsim community present at the chat this week included Drs Joyner (Pediatrics) and Stiegler (Anesthesiology).
