In 2015, Sarah Hassing took over as Co-Chair of the Children’s Hospital Simulation Committee. She has lead the biweekly interprofessional training sessions for nursing and Pediatric residents. The committee has seen some expansion with responsibilities including the organizing and supporting many simulations throughout UNC Hospitals.
“In addition to her simulation efforts, Sarah has been member of PICU Leadership Committee, Co-Chair of the PICU Clinical Practice and Education Committee, and the nursing representative for PICU Mortality and Morbidity monthly conference” said Simulationist Gene Hobbs. Hobbs also noted that “Sarah was able to integrate the clinical lessons learned into meaningful educational experiences for everyone”.
Hassing came to UNC Children’s Hospital in 2008 from the cardiothoracic unit at WakeMed in Raleigh. In her time at UNC, Hassing has been a Critical Care Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Hassing excelled in not only her clinical management but also her teamwork. In 2015, Hassing was the PICU Nurse of the Year.
We are sad to see Sarah leave today but we are excited for her new opportunity to lead the training efforts in the WakeMed Pediatric Emergency Department.
