Mr. Jim Barrick stepped down as Director of the Simulation Lab on April 8, 2016 after 10 years with the Office of Medical Education and the School of Medicine. Jim is returning to his roots as a flight medic with Carolina Air Care and will also work with them to provide training and development for the Air Care team.
Barrick oversaw massive growth in simulation offerings under the previous Medical School curriculum when he joined the Clinical Skills and Patient Simulation Center. He has played a key role in the transition to the new Translational Education at Carolina (TEC) curriculum where we now see a dozen experiences for all 180+ students in the Foundation Phase alone.
Jim has exposed many learners outside of the School of Medicine and in the community to the power of simulation. Through tours of the CSPSC, elementary and high school students have gained perspective not available in the classroom. Many of the UNC summer programs have benefitted from Jim’s mentorship and willingness to give his time to their participants.
Please join the School of Medicine and #UNCsim in thanking Jim for his service to the School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, our students and learners, and the University of North Carolina, and in wishing him much success in his new role.
