TraumaDay2016postUNC Tar Heel Trauma completed another round of their annual Summer Volunteer Trauma Day experiences. Thank you to all of the services and departments who championed our program this year.

This year the program focused on driving while fatigued and included personal experience from a member of the team that experienced this as a patient following a long shift in the emergency department.

With the efforts of many UNCH staff, we were able to provide four days of high quality education, hands on skills, and high fidelity simulation experiences, for our summer volunteers.

Kathryn Egan, THT Injury Prevention Specialist served as primary coordinator for this event. Without her amazing leadership, this experience would never have been possible.

Brad Kinnison, RN, CNII from UNCH Emergency Department shared his personal traumatic experience with our volunteers through a simulated trauma event.

Gene Hobbs, CHSE, School of Medicine Director of UNCsim and his team coordinated all of our High Fidelity Simulation experiences.

Other Champions include:

Kathy Wilson, RN, CNIII UNCH Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Krista Falvey, RN UNC Carolina Air Care

Kobe Nyarko, UNCH Radiology

Deb Young, RN, CNII UNCH Emergency Department

Carl Clark, UNCH Chaplin Services

Al Bonifacio, RN, UNC Tar Heel Trauma Program Manager

Each of these champions recruited several staff members from their individual departments, without whom we would have been unable to host such an event! Thanks to each of you who helped make this a positive experience for those who provided time, and service to our organization during their summer vacations.

Nice job Tar Heel Trauma!
