The first Post Anesthesia Care Unit in the UNC Children’s Hospital was held on September 28th.
The patient presented with respiratory distress and was treated by the team. Debriefing for the event focused on TeamSTEPPS concepts as well as process concerns that were identified through this immersive simulation.
The session was lead by PACU Nurse Jaime Baetz with assistance from Ashley Kellish and Amy Selimos. Ms Selimos commented that the team did an amazing job and the discussion of communication process improvements lead to several real time changes to care.
