Anes_OR_1The post below is a repost of an email sent to the Department of Anesthesia and other members of the UNCsim community from Dr. David Zvara. It is reposted with permission here to share the news with the whole of the UNCsim community.

Thank you for everything Dr. Stiegler and we look forward to continued simulation collaborations!

Congratulations Dr. Isaak and we look forward seeing how you continue the growth of the CAPSEL program.

Please join me in thanking Marjorie Stiegler, M.D. as she transitions from UNC to a new position with Glaxo-Smith-Kline. Dr. Stiegler has accepted a position as a Medical Director in the organization. In this role she will focus on understanding the impact of clinical outcomes and safety data, communications, and setting clinical research and R&D priorities in respiratory care. Dr. Stiegler joined UNC in 2012 and led our simulation education initiatives as the Director of the Consortium of Anesthesiology Patient Safety and Experiential Learning (CAPSEL) curriculum. Dr. Stiegler published and spoke extensively in the field of patient safety. Most recently she published the textbook Quality and Safety in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care. Dr. Stiegler will be with us through January and after this will carry an appointment as an adjunct associate professor with the expectation that she will continue to contribute in the areas of education, patient safety and simulation in the department.

Please join me in congratulating Robert Isaak, D.O. as he has graciously agreed to lead our CAPSEL program. Dr. Isaak came to UNC in 2011 from Vanderbilt and joined our Transplant and Vascular Division. His expertise and passion in education soon emerged and in the most recent years, Dr. Isaak worked in conjunction with Dr. Stiegler as a co-director of the CAPSEL program. Dr. Isaak has truly pioneered work in the use of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) in Anesthesiology and he serves as a member of the ABA task force on the OSCE. In early 2016, Dr. Isaak was appointed an ABA examiner. Dr. Isaak has an extensive academic portfolio and a growing body of publications in education. I know that each of you in this program recognize and value his contributions in clinical care and education. Please welcome Dr. Isaak in this new role.
