The UNC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology has been awarded a Firm Fixed Price contract from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality along with RTI International and Vanderbilt University to develop “Design and Development of a Perinatal Safety Intervention program (PSIP)”. Participants in the research are Nancy Chescheir, PI, Celeste Hemingway, Tom Ivester, Beth Coulombe, David Mayer and Karen Wood.
Simulation will be integrated into the curriculum to to cover the following clinical topics:
Postpartum hemorrhage.
Umbilical cord prolapse.
Safe performance of Cesarean-section.
Shoulder dystocia.
Induction of labor/augmentation of delivery.
The seizing patient.
Identification of the hypoxic fetus.
PSIP will also integrate three non-clinical topics:
Implementation Basics.
TeamSTEPPS.
Rapid Response Team.
