The Advanced Life Support Program is a division of Nursing Practice and Professional Development. Our American Heart Association (AHA) approved Training Center is currently located in Suite 104 in the UNC Health Care facility at Timberlyne.

We are expanding program offerings in calendar year 2013. Below is a summary of changes and expansion items:

  • We hired two full time AHA instructors who began their careers at UNC Health Care in August 2012.
  • We are adding 300 seats to ACLS classes beginning Jan. 1.
  • We are adding 200 seats to PALS classes beginning Jan. 1.
  • We are adding over 100 seats to BLS-Healthcare Provider classes beginning Jan. 1.
  • We are encouraging all departments to utilize our BLS-HCP classes to train and renew their health care licensed staff. If you have BLS instructors teaching classes on shift and would prefer to utilize those three hours sessions more productively, we have lots of openings in BLS-HCP classes at our Training Center.
  • Effective Jan. 1, we are adding an additional BLS class to our offerings. Though we’ve done Heartsaver/AED by request in the past, we now have those classes listed in LMS beginning Jan. 1. HS/AED is a CPR and AED training for persons who are not licensed/credentialed healthcare providers. It is our goal to make CPR training available to every UNC Health Care employee who wants to learn this important skill. Any non-licensed UNC Health Care employee who wishes to learn CPR should check with their manager for approval prior to enrolling. We even have HS/AED provider manuals for loan. These will be part of our loaner library at NPPD on the 4th floor of the Old Infirmary building.

There is no fee for UNC Health Care employees to attend any BLS-HCP or Heartsaver/AED class at our Training Center.
