Rick_Hobbs_peds_Trasition2015The Pediatrics Clerkship lead by Drs Rick Hobbs and William Mills was voted best clerkship by the graduating UNC School of Medicine class for the 2014-15 academic year.

The Pediatrics Clerkship utilizes numerous educational methods and technologies including simulation to provide controlled opportunities for learning around the time students spend in various clinical environments.

Dr Hobbs is the Director of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics and a Hospitalist with the UNC Internal Medicine/ Pediatrics Service. This April, Hobbs received a grant with Dr Byerley to expand the Clerkship regionally through the development of the South East Area Health Education Center (SEAHEC) as a Pediatric Medical Student Clerkship Site. This followed a 2014 NC AHEC Innovation Grant grant that laid the foundation for this work.

Peds_Clerkship_MillsDr Mills is the Associate Director of Medical Student Education in Pediatrics and specializes in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Mills facilitates simulation activities at the beginning of the rotation utilizing the CSPSC facilities. Following these early simulations, Mills performs in-situ simulations with the team of students giving them an opportunity to perform tasks, make decisions, direct care, and apply feedback directly into their practice.
