UNC Anesthesia residents work through simulation case in Berryhill Hall

Two articles mentioning simulation have been published recently discussing the proposed $2-billion bond that goes in front of voters this March. Included in the proposed bond is partial funding to build new facilities for the School of Medicine to replace Berryhill Hall.

The first article by Gary Moss includes quotes from UNC School of Medicine Dean Roper as well as Vice Dean for Education and Chief Education Officer, Julie Byerley. Dr Roper noted: “Increasingly, we are using simulation in the teaching of our medical students, so they will have lots of experience doing things and learning physical diagnosis well before they encounter a live patient. That’s what we are doing now, and we want to do more of that and do it better.” Dr. Byerley added that “The way health care is practiced today is much more inter-professional and team-based,” she said, “and the relationships doctors have with patients have become less directive and more collaborative as well.”

In the second article published by the News & Observer, the Clinical Skills and Patient Simulation Center is mentioned under the photos.
