Dr. Benny Joyner provided a Grand Rounds for the Department of Pediatrics entitled “Suspending Disbelief: Utilizing Medical Simulation to Improve Patient Care”. The presentation began with an overview of the importance of debriefing in both simulation and daily clinical care.

“Simulation is a technique and not a technology” – Dr Gaba. This is a point that Dr. Joyner drove home to the group by showing numerous methods of performing simulations. These methods ranged from complex teams to individual tasks. He then discussed Rob Hubal’s, UNC School of Pharmacy faculty member, RTI Training Triangle and the validation of skills.

Joyner provided an UNC’s rich history of simulation publications in numerous interprofessional topics. He also discussed the possibilities for simulation in the future and how the NCSBN National Simulation Study opened the door for evaluation of training timelines.

Thank you Dr. Joyner for providing an interesting and entertaining look at #UNCsim as well as your continued leadership for the School Medicine and Department of Pediatrics.
